Solar power plant: Chandigarh exempts residents from taking clearance for panel up to 10kWp

The Chandigarh administration has exempted residents from taking mandatory clearance from the electricity department required for commissioning a plant up to 10 kw peak (kWp).

This has made the process of installing rooftop solar power plants (SPV) easy for the residents.
According to the Solar Rooftop and Metering Regulations, 2015, of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), any one intends to set up a rooftop solar power plant (SPV), has to move an application with a prescribed fee of Rs 50 per kWp to the electricity department for grant of permission in doing so.

After checking the feasibility factor, the electricity department issues a letter of approval or rejection to the applicant. After getting a nod from the department, the applicant sets up the plant and submits the work completion report confirming that the plant has been installed according to the approved standards and specifications. Aptel stays discoms’ plea for power tariff hike

The tariff hike proposed by three power discoms has been stayed by the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (Aptel).

On Thursday, Aptel stayed the petition which the discoms submitted to Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC). The next hearing is on March 17.

The Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer discoms sought a 11- 18% hike in tariff across categories by pegging their loss at R 90,000 crore.

Samta power and non-profit organisations had challenged the tariff hike proposal. “Discoms are showing an inflated figure for per unit cost of electricity. They are adding the interest payment on losses in the cost. This is in violation of the Electricity Act. Read More…

Jain’s parents, both trained doctors, recognized the signs of a severe asthma attack. They put the 18-year-old in the family car and raced to a nearby hospital. Doctors determined that Jain was suffering from low levels of oxygen in his blood. His life was in danger. Jain was given injections and put on a nebulizer. His relatives, told to prepare for the worst, huddled together in the intensive care unit and cried.

Jain is one of 20 million Delhi residents forced to breathe the world’s most polluted air. While Beijing grabs the headlines for poor air quality, scientists say the pollution here is far worse. In 2014, the World Health Organization released data on air quality in 1,600 cities, and Delhi was found to have the highest concentration of particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micrometers, also called PM 2.5. Credit camp to finance rooftop solar plants

Dakshina Kannada district administration will conduct a credit camp for financing rooftop solar power plants in Mangaluru on February 17.

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Friday, Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim said the credit camp is first in the series of initiatives planned to encourage citizens to switch over to the use of renewable energy sources with a special focus on grid-connected roof-top solar systems.

The credit camp will have representations from the financing institutions, Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom), and government-approved agencies dealing in supply and installation of roof-top solar systems. He said that the banks will be providing provisional sanction letters to the eligible customers who visit the camp. Read More…

More than 16,000 homes in the ACT have rooftop solar

More than 16,000 homes in the ACT have rooftop solar systems, new figures from the Clean Energy Regulator have revealed.
And the number of Australian homes with rooftop solar is now more than 1.5 million.

In Canberra, the post code with the most rooftop solar panels is 2615, which includes the suburbs of Flynn, Dunlop, Flynn, Fraser, Higgins, Holt, Kippax and Spence.

The regulator’s figures also show a peak in solar panel installation in the years between 2010-14, depending on the state, before the numbers start to drop. Read More…

US firms keen to invest in India’s renewable energy sector

With India looking to enhance the share of renewable sources to 40% of its energy mix by 2030, up from 13% now, US businesses are making a beeline to capture a slice of the market.

Fred P. Hochberg, chairman and president of the Export Import Bank of the US said the financial institution is working with a number of renewable energy companies in the US which are looking to increase their business in India.

“We respect the Make in India campaign but at the same time India needs a balance between local manufacturing and the best available technology,” he said, adding that a number of US firms had approached the bank, evincing interest in the Indian renewables market. Read More…
